July 23rd Community Meeting
FRIENDS OF FILBERT PLAYLOT PARK held a Community meeting at the park on July 23rd. Alderman Pawar, his Chief of Staff Charna Epstein, our Park Supervisor Katie Fearon-Peon, and John O’Connell from Friends of the Parks joined us at this important discussion. Alderman Pawar advised that we use our $100,000 in 2010 money as soon as possible. In order to do that, we need to proceed with a phased renovation. Phase 1 of the renovation (2011) will consist of demo and site preparations, and Phase 2 (hopefully 2012) will consist of installing new play equipment.
A number of supporters offered to help, and the group determined that our Community should push to raise $50,000+ by mid-September. The more money that our Community raises now, the more the City will release of our menu money. Alderman Pawar stated that even if we can’t access our full $100,000 this year, he will provide the balance at a later date so long as the City’s menu money program is still in place.
Thanks to everyone who joined us, and who offered to help!
